Lately, I’ve been reflecting on how unpredictable life has become—and how quickly everything can change. If there’s one thing these times have taught me, it’s just how fragile our sense of stability really is.

No matter how much we think we’re in control—how hard we work, plan, or prepare—so much of our lives remain at the mercy of forces beyond us. That’s a scary truth to come to terms with.

Take Control of Your Life

I’ve been thinking about what’s going on in the world and how everyone’s life has been turned upside down, and I think that there are several lessons to be gleaned from it all.

One thing is that it’s amazing just how fragile our way of life is.  I’m amazed at the fact that no matter how much we think we’re in control of our lives, we’re really not in control at all.  Everything that we do, everything that we are – no matter how hard we work and plan and prepare for the future, our entire existence is still at the mercy of outside influences and uncontrollable occurrences.  That’s pretty scary.

It’s scary to think that we are at the mercy of a handful of people that don’t even know that we exist…and probably don’t even care.  I’m not talking Democrat or Republican, I’m talking politicians in general.  These are people that for the most part have one single item on their agenda and that is to serve themselves.  Their careers, their power, their prestige, and their fortunes take precedence over everything that they are supposed to represent and stand for. And because of this, our entire way of life has been upended!

If there’s anything that you should’ve learned from all this craziness it is that no matter how hard you work, no matter how well you plan, no matter what you do, it doesn’t take long for the wheels to fall off!  Our entire lifestyle, our entire existence is completely out of our control!  We are not in charge of our lives…not even on a day-to-day basis.

I don’t know if it was Aesop or Confucius or Socrates or Mother Goose or whoever that said, “You can’t put all your eggs in one basket.”  I don’t know what fairy tale or fable that this moral came from, but it rings truer today than ever before – for me…and I hope for you too!

We’ve been taught – and led to believe – that when we become responsible for ourselves and our families, if we get a good job and work hard we’ll be rewarded with a good life.  And sure, maybe some things will come along from time to time…we might get fired or laid off, you or a family member might get sick, but we always have hope that if we persevere, we’re still in control, and we can surmount whatever obstacle and overcome.  This is America, dammit…we Americans work hard and we overcome!  Right?

But what if stuff happens that you can’t control, that you can’t overcome on your own, when you find yourself completely dependent upon outside forces – like the government – for your wellbeing?  You’re dependent because you did what you learned was the right thing.  You got a good job – maybe your spouse too.  You’re making a good living – probably living from paycheck to paycheck like nine-tenths of the rest of the country – but your bills are paid, your kids are in school, you make it to Yellowstone or Disneyland once in a while – life is good!

But reality is, you need a side hustle – a “Plan-B” – for these times when the rug gets pulled out from under you and you find yourself and your family hanging by a thread!  And that “Plan-B” is exactly what I’m offering you here!  It’s not for everybody, and it might not be for you…and that’s okay.  But if you’re open to exploring a way to get you out from under the control of those outside forces and on your way to controlling your own destiny please, drop me an email so we can chat about some options that are available to you.
